Memorial Park Never Again

On June 3, 2001, a new monument was erected under the hill of St. Peter’s Church in a small square to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the War for Slovenian Independence. The monument features a plaque with the inscription “Never Again” in three languages. Nine chrome-plated upright tubes with capitals represent nine Slovenian trees (each cover has its own unique shape), as envisioned by the artist Bratuša. The cannon barrels were seized from the Yugoslav army and are left to the ravages of time, symbolizing that as the barrels decay and disappear, so too should war and warfare fade away.
