Path of the Springs of Life
The Slovenske Gorice and Obmurje regions are renowned for their rich number of natural mineral springs. In the valley of the middle course of the Ščavnica and Pesnica rivers, as well as in Radenci, we find the highest concentration of natural springs in Slovenia. People have been using mineral water since ancient times, as evidenced by archaeological finds. In the past, springs were arranged in square stone or wooden boxes, from which the water was collected. Modern solutions involve pipes through which the water flows. Mineral water was also valued in households, used for baking and preparing sauerkraut. The industrial exploitation and widespread sale of mineral waters have led to the abandonment of some springs, but we still admire the well-preserved Ivanjševska Slatina spring and the historical development of mineral waters in Radenci. Here, Dr. Henn discovered a natural mineral spring, which contributed to the development of the famous Radenci spa.
